Multiple websites are managed using the Site component of the Site Manager module.
For each new site you will need a unique domain name, or sub domain, to be pointed to our web server. For information on this please read Using your own domain name for your website.
- Log into OmCore
- Go to Site Manager / Sites
- Click the Add new button
The add new site form will appear - Complete the form, entering the details of your new website. For information on each of the Site component's fields, their purpose, and input requirements, please see the Site component form fields section below.
- Submit the form to create your new web site.
If you have already pointed your specified domain names to our server, and they have completed propagation (which can take up to 48 hours), then your new website will appear immediately.
Previewing sub-sites
All components consist of a preview button. Clicking this button will load the web site front end in preview mode, displaying the preview pane allowing for the previewing of content in differing statuses.
Clicking this button will always load the preview of the site which is associated to the currently logged in URL. For example, if you are logged into http://www.mydomain.co.uk/cms/ and you click the preview button, then the CMS will load a preview utilising the data from the site in the Sites component for which the URL http://www.mydomain.co.uk/ is assigned to. Therefore, if you wish to view a preview of the site http://www.otherdomain.co.uk/ you must logged in under http://www.otherdomain.co.uk/cms/.
Site component form fields
This section contains information on each of the Site component's fields, their purpose, and input requirements.
- Content tab
- Site name - This is the descriptive title for the name of the site. This information is used in various areas throughout the site such as: the logo's alt tag, the default 'from name' for emails, the footer of emails, and anywhere that the name of the site must be represented.
- Site URL - Enter here the full URL of the primary domain which you wish people to use to access this site, including 'http://' and a trailing slash '/'.
- Server alias - As well as the primary Site URL above you can have any number of additional domains and sub-domains pointing to the same site. Enter here, as a space separated list, all of the domains which you'd like to be directed to this site.
Feature: For web stats and SEO you should not have multiple domains for the same page.
For example, if http://www.mydomain.co.uk/about-us/
http://www.otherdomain.co.uk/about-us/ both presented the same page, then your stats would be distributed between the two and this would also have a negative impact on your SEO. For this reason the CMS is configured to redirect all secondary domains to your primary domain. For example, http://www.otherdomain.co.uk/about-us/ would be redirected to http://www.mydomain.co.uk/about-us/ and a 303 header response sent (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_303). - Site interface - This select menu lists the interface templates available. All CMS's come with a default template, which is selected by default. If you have bespoke templates created they will be listed here.
- Default email - This is the default email address that will be used as the 'from email' address on all emails sent by the CMS.
- Home page - The home is the default page that loads when uses come to your website or link to when clicking on your logo. Use the page selector to choose your page.
- 404 error page - If users attempt to load a page that does not exist then their browser will display a 404 error page. Give your website a more professional feel by creating your own 404 page within the CMS, with its own custom message, and select the page here.
- Send to a friend page - If your web site's template utilises the options bar then specifying a page here will activate the Send to a Friend feature, presenting the Send to a Friend icon within the options bar. Users clicking on this icon will be directed to the specified page.
- Default navigation - When loading the Site tree component, by default the Navigation group menu will select the topmost option. If this site uses a specific navigation group, that you wish to be selected by default when logging into the CMS, then select the navigation group here. Note: For this to take effect for a specific site you must log into the CMS using that site's domain. For example, if you log into the CMS using
http://www.mydomain.co.uk/cms/ then the selected default navigation for
http://www.mydomain.co.uk/ will be selected in the site tree. In the same manner when logged into
http://www.otherdomain.co.uk/cms/ the default navigation of http://www.otherdomain.co.uk/ will be selected. - Meta data tab - The data saved here represents the default meta data that will be applied to all pages of the site. Unique meta data can be assigned to individual pages using the Pages and Site tree components. For more information on the requirements of the following fields please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meta_element
- Meta title - The title of your web page.
- Meta description - A sentence describing the purpose of your website, commonly presented in search engine listings.
- Meta keywords - Enter a comma delimited string of keywords.
-
Scripts tab
Allows global scripts to be placed on all pages of your site. This can be overridden on a page per page basis using the scripts tab of the Pages component. - Global head script - JavaScript placed here will be inserted into the HTML head element of every page.
- Global footer script - JavaScript placed here will be inserted into every page just before the closing HTML tag.
-
Colours tab
Throughout the CMS content is managed using a text editor. The text editor has a Style menu which allows colours to be assigned to selected strings. The colours which appear within the Style menu are managed here. - Colour x - Select the colour from the pop-up colour palette to appear within the list.
- Colour x description - Give your selected colour a description to inform the user as to its purpose.
- Info tab
- Status - Only approved sites will load. Unapproving a site will take it immediately off-line. When a site is unapproved then all of its assigned domains will redirect to the primary site. If no sites are approved then the following URL will be loaded: http://cms.solv.it/cms-disabled/
- Created / Last modified - Displays information on the user who created and/or last modified the site.
